Answers

  1. What is ClipCopy™?
ClipCopy is the term we use to describe copy that was originally put together for use in printed (i.e. paper) newsletters or similar publications. For more information on ClipCopy , particularly for ‘newbies’, go to An Introduction to ClipCopy.

  2. What are the types of ClipCopy?
Details about any one of the 3 main types (ClipArticles™, ClipFeatures™ or ClipFillers™) are shown on their own pages. Just click on the appropriate link. Or, for an overview, go to ClipCopy Types.

  3. How do I find the files I want?
Use the Site Search Engine for best results if you are looking for items to match a particular newsletter theme or segment. Use the ClipCopy tables from the main menu if you are looking for ideas. Or browse the ClipCopy Collection by the links in the menu column.

  4. How do I copy a file for my use?
Copying & Pasting is usually the easiest way to capture individual items to your own computer. However, some other methods are:
    *  Right click on the filename and in the resulting menu click on Save Target As. Be sure to remember where you saved it if you’re a newbie. We would recommend saving to your desktop.
    *  Use File | Save As once you have the file you want in view. The same comment as above applies.
    *  If you have your web browser set up for offline browsing, simply wait until the file is loaded before moving on; you should then be able to view it offline (by using the History feature) because it should be saved in your cache. Other options include downloading some file collections in Zip file format.

  5. How do I view files without having to scroll?
Depending on your monitor size and settings you may have to scroll to view the whole file properly in your browser. However, another way might be to reduce your viewing font size through the View menu of your browser.

  6. How do I tell what a file is about without opening it?
Working titles are the best guide to file content. You can also use file guidelines such as: Type, Category, Subject (some files), Length etc. Filenames (all in ‘8.3´ format) can also help sometimes in identifying the kind of item a file is.

  7. How can I get more detailed information?
As well as the 3 Type groupings (ClipArticles, ClipFeatures or ClipFillers), most are ’sub-grouped´ by ‘Focus´ and also by ‘Tone´ (serious, humorous etc) and length (in words). Exceptions are explained on the ClipCopy Type´s own page.

  8. What format are ClipCopy items in?
In most cases, ASCII with line breaks is the format used (*.txt) because of its cross-platform versatility. This may mean having to do a Search & Replace to eliminate paragraph marks after copying them to your own machine. We use the breaks in order to make the files viewable in most browsers.

  9. How do I remove the line breaks?
For small amounts of text, the easiest way is to manually delete the paragraph marks at the end of each line. For large files you need to use a text editor. The one we recommend is NoteTab Light, a tool any publisher should find useful in numerous ways, and which is available for free download. It has a Join Lines feature which does the job perfectly. Or you could use an online application called Format-It. For a more detailed explanation click here.

  10. What is E-copy?
E-copy is the term we use for material for use in electronic publications such as ezines.

  11. Where can I find more E-copy?
Under Guidance in the menu column, click on More Content Links.

  12. How and why do I need to refresh pages?
Depending on which browser you use and how it is configured, you may sometimes be looking at an old version of a page without realizing it. To be sure you are not viewing a cached page click the Refresh button in Internet Explorer or FireFox, or it may be Reload if you use Netscape.

  13. Do you pay for copy contributions?
For the present, unfortunately, we are not in the market for paid submissions. We shall make an announcement to members if or when this changes. We are, however, accepting copy in the form of donations in return for ’show-casing’ contributors’ work. Click here for more information.

  14. Can I view your testimonials?
We will release copies of emails containing testimonials on request (for verification purposes alone) and only if requested individually. Such requests will be subject to very strict requirements such as completion of a document containing full details of the requesting individual, proof of intended use of the material, a legal declaration of intent etc.
